THE JOY LUCK CLUB - An Oliver Stone Production, from a book by Amy Tan.
One of the most beautiful films ever made, about so many levels of humanity.
Although "The Joy Luck Club" is about four Chinese mothers and their four American Chinese daughters, it is actually about all of us. It explores the disconnect between our parents who have endured war and enormous hardship and our generation who benefited from their efforts to see that we had more "hope" in our lives.
"The Joy Luck Club" is about family lost and found, and the patterns that families can carry from generation to generation until we awaken and break the chains of the past. It is about empowerment, of women, but really it's about all of us shaking off the shackles that hold us back in our lives.
The fact that this movie and the sixteen child, teenage, and adult actresses that played these four women and their daughters did not get one single Academy Award is the harshest indictment of Hollywood that could ever be leveled.
